Sophistication of the Internet allows us to explore the world from our seats. Now, via the latest Google Maps application, we can also become a time traveler.Google's latest project is named 'Historypin' Google Maps has transformed into a kind of time machine. How, by allowing users to match historic photographs aka old photograph to a particular location.
The users can browse photos by location and period of time, or zoom in Google Street View to compare conditions today with a few decades ago.
Each photograph can capture photos with dates and also the story behind it.
This application is made by a non-profit groups 'What Are What We Do' is collaborating with Google. This project aims to bridge the intergenerational communication.
Annie Baxter from Google Australia said that, so far there are about 6000 photos on this site.

"We encourage people to upload (upload) more photos, so that source is more complete. It would be much more uploaded every day," said Baxter.

A spokesman for the Royal Australian Historical Society, Donna Newton argues, 'Historypin' is a wonderful idea. "This will be one way for us to get old photographs out there," said Hunter of the Institute dia.Warwick Archives of New South Wales, said his institution has a large collection of old photographs and was considering uploading it to Historypin - including photographs of city streets and buildings taken in the year 1880.
Company camera, Kodak estimates that there are as many as 12 billion photos in the world who have not scanned into the computer.
