Digital Kingston launches DataTraveler USB Flash Drive 5000. This product is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified with Level 3, and hardware-based encryption 256-bit AES.

This unit uses a password XTS mode and also using elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) algorithm for use in the Suite B standards tested by the U.S. government.

"DataTraveler 5000 provides a high level of security protection and encryption for government and enterprise users," said Nathan Su, Flash Memory Sales Director Kingston, APAC region, told through description officially, Friday (29/1/2010).

"This portable data solution represents data protection with high artistic value that also provides convenience for users because it has a plug-and playm system," he added.

DataTraveler 5000 registered security features of the technology base SPYRUS hardware that supports 256-bit AES-XTS and Suite B cryptography, including the ECC. Suite B algorithms specifically selected and proven by the U.S. government and the Department of Defense for use in the distribution of data in multi-national environment, including the application of classification and not classified. XTS-AES mode is the mode for the encryption password much stronger than the CBC, ECB and other modes.

FIPS 140-2 certification requires validation process that meets government criteria for the package from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This is very important for government agencies in the United States has a lot of sensitive data must be encrypted with FIPS 140-2 standard.

Level 2 means that the 5000 has a construction DataTraveler obvious damage that served to give warning to all users if the drive that they use have been destroyed.

This also is a power-on self-test is to verify the encryption mechanisms work well when the drive is plugged in a USB port. Drive is expected to receive certification of FIPS 140-2 Level 3 as soon as possible.

DataTraveler 5000 is available in a capacity of 2 -, 4 -, 8 - and 16GB. This is also available with an onboard application programs Malware scanning extensive customization via Kingston
