Dreamworks Animation will release not only new cartoon film "Shrek Forever After" at the upcoming May 21, 2010. The studio is now also the middle of converting the first three Shrek movies that hit the market into high-quality 3D format (HD) which will be recorded in the Blu-ray disc.
"To come back and rebuild into a 3D quality is not expensive, but we want to achieve high quality results," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of Dreamworks Animation, during the annual convention the National Association of Broadcasters, Wednesday (14/4/2010) ago.
He is optimistic that the technology and support the existing capital could generate two-dimensional video conversion into high quality 3D video. Katzenberg estimates that the process will cost 20 million dollars per movie and it took 18 months to complete.
"This is changing very, very quickly. I am quite optimistic that if it was 12 months or 18 months or 24 months from now, there will be a quality product in 2D to 3D conversion," he said. Earlier, George Lucas also is working to convert the Star Wars and James Cameron's Titanic change into 3D format.
