Russian astronomers estimate that the asteroid Apophis will hit Earth on April 13, 2036. "Apophis will reach the Earth within a distance of 37 thousand to 38 thousand kilometers on April 13, 2029. Looks like the asteroid will hit Earth on 13 April 2036," said Professor Leonid Sokolov from Saint Petersburg State University.
Scientists say, however, a chance collision in 2036 is very small by saying that the asteroid seems to be split into smaller parts and a collision with a smaller Earth can occur in subsequent years.
"Our job is to think about and develop a range of alternatives and the draft action plan that relies on more distant observations of Apophis," said Sokolov.
Asteroid was discovered in 2004 and is considered the biggest threat to the planet Earth, even though NASA scientists to reduce the possibility of dangerous collisions with Earth in 2036. Russian Space Agency announced plans earlier to consider the program in preventing the large asteroid collision with Earth.
