When the sperm bank in the United States began to accept lesbian clients in the mid-1980s, the move was immediately reap the wave of criticism. Mentioned, parents with same sex will damage the health of the child psychology.

After through research that continued for 25 years, the results say different things.

In a report published the journal Pediatrics, children from a pair of lesbian parents experiencing social, emotional, and psychological health.

As quoted by the Hindustan Times, December 20, 2010, that conclusion is the result of research led by Nanette Gartrell, a psychiatrist from the University of California, San Francisco. Gartrell observe the growth of 78 children drawn from artificial insemination and born and raised by a lesbian.

Starting in 1986, Gartrell interviewed the woman in San Francisco, Boston, and Washington DC during pregnancy and then interviewed again when their children aged 2, 5, 10, and 17 years.

Gartrell also used a questionnaire to determine clinical behavior.

Apparently, when children aged 17 years, children generally have an average value better academically than children raised by normal parents. In terms of aggressive behavior and social problems, children are also better.

"This study continued to respond to allegations that are not based in science around the same-sex marriage or adoption," says Gartrell.

Gartrell admit, is still much research to be done. For example, a new study based on same-sex couples who previously could not yet widely accepted in society. Also do not reflect the diversity of the lesbian couples who raise children as at present.
