RIM said Monday that the CIO will have a new video conferencing applications for the BlackBerry Playbook which soon slid. Of course, a 3 megapixel camera front and rear facing megapixel camera on the Blackberry Playbook is a clear indicator that RIM had been thinking about the video chat from the beginning.
There is some speculation in the past that third-party developers, such as Skype, will give an application to use video chat, but reports that RIM's VP of strategy David Heit has effectively superseded the rumors. According to Heit, Playbook Blackberry application for peer-to-peer video conferencing will be similar to Apple FaceTime and is expected to begin "very soon."
Although no official statement has been made regarding the launch date BlackBerry Playbook, the source of the most agreed that April 10 will be a time of tablets due to be launched, which makes us believe that RIM will launch a video-conferencing application along with this tablet, or soon thereafter.
There is no information on whether Playbook video-chatters will be able to connect with the non-Playbook, but the fact that there are currently no BlackBerry smartphones equipped with front-facing camera tells us that the application will not be available to BB handsets in the near future.
