Biomechanical Harvester: With Limbs Can Light Laptops

|

do you know if men with their activities of daily life there is the potential energy of 150 watts. Though unfortunately, the potential energy contained in these human activities can not be fully utilized, but some scientists have begun trying to explore the potential energy.

One of them must be performed by Thunder Laksan of biomechanical research group Energy Department of Mechanical Engineering of ITS. Together with students Umarudin S1 Mechanical Engineering Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, they developed a tool to harvest the energy contained in the human body with all its activities. Instrument developed by them is named Biomechanical Energy Harvester.

This tool is to act to change the energy of motion in humans to be used as electrical energy. Tool length measuring 7cm width and height of 2.5 cm 7.5 utilize the energy contained in the motion of human legs.

"We intentionally chose the legs because the body parts are part of the human body that has the greatest energy potential of around 54 watts," Must said.

Biomechanical Energy Harvester uses this creation to the human leg motion. In everyday life people must not get out of walking activity. Now, the energy of motion during human walking is an attempt to be modified by electrical energy.

"The result is not bad. From the results of trials using threadmill, this tool can generate an average of 7-volt electrical current, with a walking speed of about 8 km / h," Must said.

Power of this magnitude, said it was appropriate to the target. Must be with the team has targeted these biomechanical energy harvester can turn your laptop battery. To be able to turn the laptop battery, at least the required 7-volt, 12 ampere. But unfortunately, the amperage of the biomechanical energy harvester is still about 5 amperes.

"This tool is still what it is, no modifications so that appropriate if the amount of power produced by it," says Must.

To improve the mechanical ampere harvesrter this, together with his team should plan to increase the number of wire windings on the coils. Currently, the biomechanical energy harvester that is the number of wire windings on the coil is numbered only 500. This amount can level to 2000 windings. In addition, to increase the power can also be paired with electric booster. So that the electrical energy produced can be multiplied.

The working principle of this tool is simple. Movement on the legs used to drive the magnetic coil mengeliling. To move the magnets used a pair of gears. While used to generate electric currents and magnetic coils. So every move will move the legs mengeliling magnet coils. The movement of this coil surrounding the magnet which then generate electrical induction. The emerging electricity, raised again by a mini generator.
