Drink Wine Energy Generate Electricity

Did You Know? Wine waste could help cut energy consumption costs. U.S. scientists find new technologies that can generate electricity by using the rest of the wine fermentation.

According to scientists, this technology can be efficient ways and effective in dealing with the wine factory wastes. In fact, how it can generate new profits in the energy sector.
In their research, they found two groups of bacteria in the waste wine. One group of bacteria convert sugar and serve unused vinegar from the fermentation process into electrical energy.

While other groups of bacteria use the energy generated electricity to split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen are released into the atmosphere.

"Actually there is nothing special about these two groups of bacteria. We just gave them a good environment to grow," said a scientist from Penn State University Bruce Logan, as quoted by the Times of India, Thursday (17/12/2009).

Another scientist, professor Sheela Berchmans of the Central Electrochemical Research Institute (cherry) also claimed that the bacteria can produce electricity from the wine. He managed to create energy by using the same method.

"Substances such as glucose, alcohol and the rest of the waste contain sugar or alcohol that can be used to generate electricity," said Berchmans.

According to Berchmans, two groups of bacteria were identified as Acetobacter aceti and Bluconobacter roseus. These bacteria can damage the wine.

Unfortunately, the electricity produced is not much. Scientists at the mention of cherries, a single culture of each bacteria collected only 859 milliwat generate electricity.
