Cinnamon, one of the spices commonly found in the kitchen was able to present a more simple and secure way to make gold nanoparticles.According to research, sweet wood particles that can even be used to treat cancer.

For information, gold nanoparticles known to be extremely useful for detecting tumors, performing a search of oil, light the way and heal disease. Unfortunately, the process of making particles that require hazardous chemicals.

Currently, there are several ways to make gold nanoparticles. But the means employed generally involve dissolving chloroauric acid, or which are also called gold salt, in the liquid and adding other chemicals to precipitate the gold atom.

Other common mixtures such as using sodium citrate, sodium borohydrida (which is also used to bleach wood pulp) and ammonium compounds, all of which can be harmful to humans and the environment.

In order to promote environmentally friendly nanotechnology, researchers from the University of Missouri mixing gold salt with cinnamon.

When combined with nanoparticles, this phytochemical substances can enter and destroy cancer cells or help mapping for more accurate medical procedures could be applied.

"Our gold nanoparticles are not only healthy ecology and biology, but they are also biologically active against cancer cells," said Kattesh Katti, professor of radiology and physics from the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

As quoted from PopSci, January 5, 2011, the process of making particles that do not require electricity and chemicals in addition to basic ingredients ie gold salts.

In a report published in the journal Pharmaceutical Research, Katti said that cinnamon and seeds, leaves, and other herbs can be used to convert the metal into nanoparticles without using harmful chemicals.

"Approach to nanotechnology 'green' indicates that we use nature's role can not be ignored in the future development of nanotechnology," says Katti.
