X86 Chip Challenge Tilera with 100 processor cores

|

Development company launched a processor chip Tilera TILE-GX series which claimed 10 times better for computing the efficiency of the next generation chip from Intel, Westmare.

Tilera artificial processor is processed with 40-nanometer TSMC is able to operate until 1:50 GHz with power consumption levels of between 10 to 55 watts, including low-to-chip class.

"TILE-GX processor line is available with Tilera artificial cores 16, 36, 64 and 100. This product uses remote-scale architecture is unique, with capabilities beyond the traditional microprocessor core," explained spokesman Bob Doud Tilera to TG Daily, the Legal quoted Monday (26/10/2009).

"Tilera chip using two-dimensional iMesh interconnect which was to eliminate the need of on-chip and the system Dynamic Distributed Cache (DDC) which allows each core to the local cache coherent distributed throughout the chip," he added.

Added Doud, Tilera technology four years ahead of all the chips in the world. Even he compares with Intel's traditional impressed.

"We can begin to design the chip with a 'clean'. Intel burdened by a number of 'accessories', a large investment in the X86 architecture. They have to ensure compatibility for a number of servers and consumer products," said Doud.

"But our view is that increased performance does not only increase the clock frequency. Although the clock frequency is higher does not result in higher speeds, and consequently the power to rise exponentially. Our belief is that performance must be improved through parallelism - or more cores running on a simple clock speed, "he added.

Doud emphasizes that ranks TILE GX processor is ideal for various applications, including corporate networks, cloud computing (cloud computing), multimedia and wireless infrastructure.

"Cloud computing is a very broad term and obviously a very big market. This is a step in expanding our market share from time to time. We offer and excellent counting efficiency, about 10x more than Intel's Nehalem processors. Tilera also performs much significantly better per-watt of the Sun SPARC architecture, "sambun Doud.

Doud noted that "the fundamental OS" for TILE-GX is a Linux distribution known as Linux Zol, or a zero overhead Linux.

"Our processors are standard in the case of Linux, which has been successfully ported to dozens of platforms. And when you're running Linux, there are a number of tools that offers support for C + + and Java," he said.
